Registrar or Celebrant? Let’s Make Sure You Know Your Options

When it comes to your wedding ceremony, knowledge is power—and regrets are not what you want to feel after your big day. So here’s a quick, friendly breakdown of your options to help you choose what truly fits you… registrar or celebrant?

A registrar-led ceremony covers the legal bit of getting married. That also means a fixed script, strict timings, and very little room for personal flair. It does the job… but it can feel a little dry and predictable.

A celebrant-led ceremony, on the other hand, is where the magic really happens ✨

While celebrants can’t (yet – change is coming!) legally register marriages in England and Wales, removing the legal element opens up a world of freedom. No content restrictions. No licensed-venue rules. No rushing.

As a celebrant, I create a completely bespoke ceremony—heartfelt, fun, meaningful, and totally you. Think personal vows, your love story shared, your chosen music, readings that actually mean something, and moments that bring your guests into the experience. It’s a ceremony people enjoy, not just sit through while waiting for the party to start.

We spend the months leading up to your wedding getting to know each other and shaping a ceremony that reflects your story. So when you reach the end of the aisle, you’re greeted by a familiar, friendly face who truly understands you as a couple.

The couples I work with love blending tradition with personal twists, keeping what they like, changing what they don’t. And the best part? A celebrant ceremony can happen anywhere, anytime, licensed venue or not.

There’s also no clock-watching. Unlike registrars (who often have multiple ceremonies in a day), as a celebrant I lead just one. So if timings slip or the weather means , it’s no problem. I’m there solely for you.

Registrar or Celebrant? Cost Clarity

Cost-wise, I charge only slightly more than having a local registrar attend your venue, reflecting the time, care, and creativity I pour into your personalised experience. And the legal paperwork can be done quietly before your wedding day—currently £56 at Bath Register Office for a simple legal ceremony, plus the standard notice fees.

So, legal admin on one day…
and a joyful, unforgettable ceremony on another 💖

The best of both worlds!
